Multicenter Prospective Study of Novel Biopsy Assessment System for the Intraprocedural Evaluation of Lung Biopsies by Robotic Assisted Bronchoscopy

This multi-center prospective study evaluated the feasibility and accuracy of a novel Biopsy Assessment System (CelTivity) utilizing Full Field Optical Coherence Tomography with Dynamic Cell Imaging (FFOCT-DCI) for intraprocedural evaluation of lung biopsies obtained via robotic-assisted bronchoscopy. The study included 54 patients and compared proceduralist interpretation of the system's images against standard Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) and final pathology. Results demonstrated a high sensitivity of 90% for the Biopsy Assessment System compared to 44% for ROSE, with an average image preparation time of under 2 minutes. The study concluded that the system is a feasible tool for rapidly assessing lung biopsy adequacy without compromising tissue for final evaluation.
